I remember the first time I wanted social share buttons for my site. Years ago now. I remember it took me three days to go through dozens and dozens of social sharing plugins. There were so many.
And me being an inexperienced WordPress blogger, I had almost no idea which plugin to choose. So I did it at random.
That was a mistake.
If I had done a little bit of research, I'd have found out that the plugin I chose was one of the worst plugins of them all. It slowed my site down by a lot. And the share buttons didn't even look attractive at all. They were outdated.
But luckily for you, you have the brains to seek advice. And that is what you are going to get here.
First off, we will show you 10 of the best social sharing plugins for WordPress. And since 10 is still a lot to choose from, we'll offer some advice at the end. 🙂
So let's dive in!
Social Snap is a social media marketer's dream. It provides both inline and floating bar buttons, some analytics and reporting, an auto poster that can also be used to boost old posts, and everything else you need from a freemium plugin.
Easy Social Share Buttons is a feature-heavy social plugin any marketer would be lucky to have in their WP arsenal. You get both inline and floating buttons, dozens of design templates, great analytical features, and much more.
Monarch is from the well-known Elegant Themes, the folks behind one of the most popular WordPress products in Divi. Monarch gives you beautiful share buttons and a bunch of other neat features to help grow your social engagement.
Social Warfare is one of the most popular social share plugins among the WordPress community.
Formerly Social Pug, Grow by Mediavine is a fun and lightweight social sharing plugin that will give you beautiful inline and floating buttons. You can use it for free.
Social Snap is a premium social sharing tool for WordPress. It is a simple lightweight plugin that comes with the essential features and functionality needed for a social-friendly website.
There are over 30 social network buttons. They are highly customizable—unlimited colours, four button shapes, three sizes, several animations, and much more. And they are designed to look great on all screen sizes.
You can show your share counts via API or through click tracking. And you're allowed to show share counts that only reach a required minimum. Plus, if you've lost your shares after switching from HTTP to HTTPS, you can easily recover them. Cool, huh!?
Social Snap also offers awesome features like Click to Tweet, link shortening, and advanced analytics.
There are also add-ons that are only included in two of the three pricing plans. The add-ons include the Social Auto Poster, Social Login, Social Content Locker, and Boost Old Posts.
Easy Social Share Buttons is without a doubt one of the best social sharing plugins in all of WordPress. While it may not win the award for best name, its list of features and functionality can go toe to toe with the best of them. This plugin has a lot to offer. And the community is loving it because it has maintained a 4.66 star rating out of 5 from over 27,500 customers.
So why are people loving this plugin? First off, they take share buttons to the next level. The customization options, especially. There are more than 50 button templates and 25 cool animations.
And then there's the very cool features like the after-share actions where you can ask your sharers to like a Facebook post or follow you on Twitter or even view your most shared posts.
Easy Social Share Buttons comes with so much more. Like A/B testing and share count recovery. Heck! There are even tools for live chat and email opt-in forms.
This plugin deserves an in-depth review!
Monarch is easily one of the best social sharing plugins out there. It is from Elegant Themes, a popular WordPress company that puts out quality products like the Divi theme and the Bloom mailing list plugin.
Monarch gives you the power to customize your social share buttons. There are several hover animations, three button shapes, and unlimited colours.
There are both inline and floating bar buttons. But also pop-up share boxes, fly-ins, and media buttons (like the PIN it).
It's a solid social sharing plugin and would be a great addition to your WordPress arsenal.
Social Warfare offers all the best social sharing features and functionality. It is one of the most popular social plugins in all of WordPress. They have testimonials from some of the best people in digital marketing.
There is a lite version of the plugin that only offers social share buttons and five networks. The good thing about this is the buttons are mobile friendly.
Social Warfare Pro offers features like share count recovery, minimum social proof, link shortening, PIN it buttons, and Click to Tweet.
The plugin also allows you to control how your content will look on social media. You are given settings for your title, image, and meta description.
Grow by Mediavine was formerly Social Pug. It's so recent. some of the old branding can still be seen inside your dashboard. Anyway...
Grow is a freemium social media sharing plugin that offers everything you need to get your blog audience to share your content. While the free version is limited, Grow premium has some great features for you.
It not only offers inline and floating buttons, but also the sticky share bar that goes at the bottom—or sometimes top—of your page for mobile devices.
Some features you may be interested in are the Click to Tweet boxes, custom Pinterest settings, the PIN it button for images, share count recovery, bit.ly link shorter, and more.
Social Rocket is a rather new addition to the WordPress social share plugin scene. It is a freemium plugin where you are allowed access to its core features.
These features include seven social networks, inline buttons, the floating sidebar, button customization, button display and placement, share count settings, and click to tweet.
One of the downsides about the lite version is that it isn't mobile responsive. You would have to opt for a premium plan to get access to this. However, there are two features that could help you with this: 1) disable floating sidebar on mobile and keep the inline buttons, or 2) set its placement to the top or bottom of the screen.
Social Rocket has great premium features and functionality. It offers more social networks, separate settings for mobile and desktop, bit.ly link shortening, share count rescue and more.
MashShare is a freemium social sharing plugin that offers a ton of great features and functionality.
The free version is quite limited. It only provides you with Facebook and Twitter share buttons. But it allows you to customize the buttons and share count labels. It also allows you to choose where your buttons will and will not display.
MashShare offers a dozen great add-ons that start at 20 bucks for a single site license. But there are also full premium plans and bundles where you can gain access to all of what MashShare has to offer.
These features and add-ons include 25+ social networks, floating sidebar, mobile responsive, Google Analytics integration, a sticky sharebar, and more.
GetSocial is like many of the social sharing plugins on this list. It's a freemium tool that offers a lite version that is limited to its core features.
The core features include inline buttons and the floating bar. Along with follow buttons and two types of call-to-action boxes you could use to build a mailing list or send your visitors to your important pages.
One big feature that is not included in the free version is the mobile responsiveness, which sucks because this is such an essential feature to look for in a top WordPress social share plugin.
But that is okay. Because GetSocial—particularly its paid version—is inexpensive and offers a ton of customization options.
GetSocial also comes with mailing list tools. However, they are basic and would only be suitable for those who are just starting out. It only offers a pop-up box and a notification bar and only integrates with Mailchimp.
Sassy Social Share is one of the best free plugins for social share buttons.
The plugin will provide you with both inline buttons and the floating bar. Both come with great customization options such as button shape, width and height, border radius, custom colours, and more.
Sassy Social Share supports over 100 social networks for your share buttons. That's the most we've ever seen in a free share plugin. Probably even in premium plugins, too.
The best part of this tool is it supports mobile responsiveness. Not many free social share buttons provide you with this.
ShareIt! is a free to use plugin that provides you with easy WP social share buttons. It started out as a social share solution for WooCommerce. But is now available for any WordPress website to use.
Getting your social buttons up and running is a quick process. You simply choose from the dozen or so social networks, pick a button layout, and you're done.
The best thing about ShareIt! is its mobile responsive functionality. It may not support inline buttons, but the floating bar has become a favourite for WordPress bloggers over the years. And when the plugin detects a mobile user, it will respond and display a horizontal social bar at the bottom of the screen.
I know. Choosing from 10 of the best social media plugins is a tough task. I mean, they all sound amazing. They all provide quality share buttons.
So, what should you do?
I'd recommend you pick one that will meet all your social needs. If you're unsure what these are, here is what I look for in a social sharing plugin:
Not all of the 10 plugins provide you with these features. One that does is Easy Social Share Buttons. At $20 per license, it's pretty affordable. But it can be very overwhelming for people with little to no experience. The plugin is feature-heavy.
If you're looking for a free social sharing plugin, Sassy Social Share has the basic features for you. And it's mobile friendly.
Our #1 recommendation is Social Snap. It provides the five essentials I look for AND MORE. The four add-ons are very cool. You can automatically share your posts on social media, revive your older posts, and even encourage your readers to share before reading a particular area of your content.
But whatever plugin you choose, we're here for you. 🙂
